Addressing the problems with Message Stubbing in Outlook

In the past, with earlier Exchange archiving solutions, message stubbing was the only interface to access emails from within Outlook. Initially, this was an adequate solution for a number of customers looking to get a handle on growing email databases. However, soon some of the problems became apparent. The biggest problems showed up when users realized that they still had to use Outlook search in order to find emails. Outlook searches often took a long time and did not take advantage of the indexed search in the archiving system. Worse yet, the Outlook searches failed to find any data in attachments because of the lack of support.

In order to address these shortcomings, Athena Archiver offers a completely different approach to accessing the email archive which enables full Outlook Integration with the archive. That means users can access the full functionality of Athena Archiver directly from within Outlook. Users can use Athena Archiver to easily search all of their emails WITH attachments in a fraction of the time it takes with Outlook. Users also benefit from additional tools such as tagging, filtered searches, and the ability to share or export emails easily!

Next Generation Email Capture Plug In

1st Generation archive systems used mailbox journaling to capture emails, but users quickly found out that it was an extremely resource intensive task for the server. Journaling is particularly intensive for the Exchange mail server because every CC or BCC is duplicated as another mail delivery in Exchange. This means that if an email has 150 recipients, it is journaled 150 times instead of once with 150 recipients. This can be a tremendous drain on Exchange resources and often dramatically reduces the capacity of the Exchange server. Athena Archiver recognized a need to provide a better solution that solves the scalability and reliability problems associated with Exchange's mailbox journaling. By using an Exchange plug-in, we are able to allow all CC and BCC messages to be treated as a single email, reducing the burden of message archiving by as much as 80%!
